Watching, Seeking The Lord’s Heartbeat

Wrong People In Your Boat

2 Corinthians 6:14Do not be yoked together with unbelievers. For what do righteousness and wickedness have in common? Or what fellowship can light have with darkness?

My mother and I had many troubled years because she yoked herself with darkness. She did not purposely steer her boat in the direction of the murky waters of evil. However, Mother allowed the emotion of loneliness to blind her to a smooth talking flatterer with a strong Jezebel spirit.

Romans 16:17-18 – I urge you, brothers, to watch out for those who cause divisions and put obstacles in your way that are contrary to the teaching you have learned. Keep away from them. For such people are not serving our Lord Christ, but their own appetites. By smooth talk and flattery they deceive the minds of naive people.

Just like Samson and Solomon, my mother allowed this individual to persuade her little by little to put aside her morals and principles that were rooted in Christ.  At first, she resisted, maintaining pure faith. However, in the end, she rationalized away the potential danger to herself and me. God is clear in His Word for us not to marry or put ourselves in relationship with anyone who does not truly share our commitment to Him.

My mother had a longing to fulfill the loneliness in her heart. She no longer filled it with God and His Word or listened to wise counselors. With her desire blinding her judgment, she proceeded with an unwise relationship.

Proverbs 13:20He who walks with the wise grows wise, but a companion of fools suffers harm.

With Mother aligning herself with this smooth talking flatterer with a strong Jezebel spirit and allowing this individual into our boat, she and I both suffered for many years.

Jude 16These men are grumblers and faultfinders; they follow their own evil desires; they boast about themselves and flatter others for their own advantage.

However, we both learned an overwhelming lesson concerning individuals whose speech is smooth as butter. Psalm 55:21 – His speech is smooth as butter, yet war is in his heart; his words are more soothing than oil, yet they are drawn swords.

I can honestly say that Mother never permitted another smooth talking flatterer into her boat again. For me, I have had to relearn that lesson, Romans 8:5Those who live according to the sinful nature have their minds set on what the nature desires; but those who live in accordance with the Spirit have their minds set on what the Spirit desires.

Sinful natured people are “Flesh People”. Flesh people tear you down and feed your fears. They waste your time and drain your energy.  Some of these individuals have strong Jezebel spirits.

Spirit minded people are “Faith People”. Faith people fill your life with strength from the Lord; bring love and honesty from the Lord. Faith people will draw you closer to the Lord not away from Him. Faith people always are honest even when it hurts.

My do over lesson has cost me dearly, but Psalm 56:8Record my lament; list my tears on your scroll, are they not in your record?

Psalm 57:1Have mercy on me, O God, have mercy on me, for in you my soul takes refuge. I will take refuge in the shadow of your wings until the disaster has passed.
