Waiting, Seeking The Lord’s Heartbeat

To Patiently Persevere

Psalm 27:14Wait for the Lord; be strong and take heart and wait for the Lord.

There are many illustrations in God’s Word of individuals waiting for the promises of God to come to reality.

Abraham and Sarah were one hundred and ninety when Isaac their promised child was born, but during this time, Sarah thought she would give God some help to fulfill that promise. It took Noah one hundred and twenty years to build the ark and another year inside the ark before he and his family could step onto dry ground again. Jacob worked for his uncle seven years before he could marry Rachel and even then his uncle tricked him. David was anointed king at the age of sixteen, but he did not take the throne until he was thirty which during the waiting time he was being hunted down by King Saul.

Waiting for God is not easy. Often it seems that He is not answering our prayers or does not understand the urgency of our situation.

I have been sitting with a dear loved one lately because this individual decided that the waiting was not worth the pain any more. This individual is no longer able to physically move and take care of the bodily needs any longer. This individual just gave up and stopped putting one foot in front of the other.

To wait patiently for the Lord to answer our prayers most of the time requires inner strength that only comes from God, Himself. Not only must we have an inner strength but we must act on that inner strength by moving forward one step at a time.

Bobby and I have had many trials and storms in our life but the trial and storm that hit us January 2013 has been the one that has tested everything in us and about us. We have wanted to give up but God keeps reminding me that quitting is not in my DNA.

I watched my parents and my uncle, the one who was just recently called home, continually put one foot in front of the other and never stopped moving forward no matter the pain of the circumstances.

When the adversity and affliction started, God gave us one particular Scripture that we have read through out. 2 Chronicles 20:15, 17…….. This is what the Lord says to you: ‘Do not be afraid or discouraged because of this vast army. For the battle is not yours, but God’s. ‘……..Take up your positions; stand firm and see the deliverance the Lord will give you.

Even though much time has passed since our loved ones have forsaken us and great injustice has been done to us, we stand firm in our faith, and we keep moving forward with one step at a time, perseverance.

Psalm 40: 1-4I waited patiently for the Lord; he turned to me and heard my cry. He lifted me out of the slimy pit, out of the mud and mire; he set my feet on a rock and gave me a firm place to stand. He put a new song in my mouth, a hymn of praise to our God. Many will see and fear and put their trust in the Lord. Blessed is the man who makes the Lord his trust, who does not look to the proud, to those who turn aside to falsehood.

Waiting for God to help is not easy, but while we wait, we pray and seek God’s guidance so not to move ahead of Him. We wait for Him to bring the restoration and justice He has promised.
