Genesis 3:1 – Now the serpent was more crafty than any of the wild animals the Lord God had made. He said to the woman, “Did God really say, “You must not eat from any tree in the garden?”
Satan is the master at making sin come across as pleasing, beautiful, and brings freedom to fulfill the inner desires of our hearts which say that we are entitled to go after whatever we see and take from others what they have as well. He implies that God is strict, stingy, and selfish and wants to keep us from our freedom to pursue our hearts desires.
As the winds and rain of adversity continue to beat down hard on Bobby and me, we are on the mountain road of a seemingly endless war of anxiety and anger. We constantly are seeking, asking, and knocking at God’s Heavenly door for answers to our circumstances that are running down a slippery muddy mountain road heading straight for the cliff. We keep asking where are the brakes and how do we stop this moving disaster?
As I am preparing this post for my Blog, Hurricane Irma is creating a strong destructive path through our country, and she will leave her mark in history that cannot and will not be forgotten. The number of lives, property and possessions that are destroyed cannot be measured with money, words, or emotions.
Just as Irma will and has caused devastation beyond our human ability to fully understand, the Hurricane Irma’s in our personal lives can and do have lasting scars as well.
Joshua 24:15 – But if serving the Lord seems undesirable to you, then choose for yourselves this day whom you will serve, whether the gods your forefathers served beyond the River or the gods of the Amorites, in whose land you are living. But as for me and my household, we will serve the Lord.
Joshua took his stand for God many years earlier. In Numbers 13, when is was time for the Israelites to go into the land God had promised them, all but Caleb and Joshua chose to retreat and disobey God.
God’s Word still applies to our lives even today. His Word reveals who we are and what we are not. There is nothing left out of God’s Word. We see the good, bad and the ugly.
Hebrews 4:12-13 – For the word of God is living and active. Sharper than any double-edged sword, it penetrates even to dividing soul and spirit, joints and marrow; it judges the thoughts and attitudes of the heart. Nothing in all creation is hidden from God’s sight. Everything is uncovered and laid bare before the eyes of him to whom we must give account.
Several past Presidents of our wonderful country either said or implied that character does not matter.
1 Samuel 16:7 – But the Lord said to Samuel, “Do not consider his appearance or his height, for I have rejected him. The Lord does not look at the things man looks at. Man looks at the outward appearance, but the Lord looks at the heart.”
God judges by faith and character not appearance. While most of us spend hours maintaining our outward appearance, we should be spending more time developing our inner character.
Does true beauty start with the face? Mary Kay, Avon, Cover Girl, and countless other cosmetic companies that produce product after product would have all to believe that their products hold the secret to true beauty.
What about the clothes we wear? Abercrombie and Fitch, Adidas, Levi Strauss and other brand name clothing companies, will they give us the beauty we are so desperately looking for?
Is diamonds and other priceless stones truly a girl’s best friend?
As the hands of time moved from my childhood into my young teen years, the road my mother was traveling opened wide and dark into the sea of a massive hidden volcano deep in the sea of guilt, despair, anger, loneliness, and desperation. She had followed God for five years after the death of my father. She and I were going to church and she would read God’s Word to me. The Lord’s Heartbeat was clear during those years.
Proverbs 26: 24-26 – A malicious man disguises himself with his lips, but in his heart he harbors deceit. Though his speech is charming, do not believe him, for seven abominations fill his heart. His malice may be concealed by deception, but his wickedness will be exposed in the assembly.
