What could Jezebel, a human being God created, have in common with the fictional character, Cinderella that was created by the wonderful imagination of Walt Disney another human being God created?
Why watch shows on T.V. like Desperate Housewives, Criminal Minds, The Walking Dead, day time soap operas, The Big Bang Theory, Madam Secretary, Modern Family, Supernatural, The Good Wife and Empire when you can find all the crime, sex, murder, in the Bible.
In God’s Word, there are princes, princesses, kings, queens, warriors, witches, an animal that talks, battles, armies, angels, demons, fights between angels and demons, murder, adulterous affairs, plotting, scheming, lying, individuals being raised from the dead, storms, beach scenes, mountain scenes, good, evil and is there happy ever after?
We begin reading about Jezebel in 1 Kings 16: 31– Ahab not only considered it trivial to commit the sins of Jeroboam son of Nebat, but he also married Jezebel daughter of Ethbaal king of the Sidonians, and began to serve Baal and worship him.
Jezebel came from the Phoenician city of Tyre where her father had been a high priest and eventually king. Jezebel worshiped the god Baal. Ahab wanted to please Jezebel, so he built a temple and altar for Baal. This promoted idolatry and lead the entire nation into sin.
Baal was the most popular Canaanite god. Baal idols were often made in the shape of a bull, representing strength and fertility and reflecting lust for power and sexual pleasure.
Just as Jezebel, God’s created being, went from princess to queen, Cinderella, Walt Disney’s imaginary character, also went from princess to queen. Cinderella lived with her father, the king, and her mother, the queen, in a far away kingdom long ago.
Unfortunately for Cinderella, before she could become queen her life goes from the palace to the dungeon. Her mother dies and her father marries the wicked evil stepmother with two cold, cruel heartless daughters. After another horrible turn of events in Cinderella’s life, her father also dies and this starts the downward spiral of Cinderella’s life into the deep dark scheming, plotting, lying wicked evil desires of her stepmother and two stepsisters.
As we journey back from fantasy into reality, Jezebel is ranked as the most evil woman in God’s Word. In Revelation 2:20-23, v-20, – Nevertheless, I have this against you: You tolerate that woman Jezebel, who calls herself a prophetess. By her teaching she misleads my servants into sexual immorality and the eating of food sacrificed to idols. Jezebel’s name is used as a synonym for great evil.
How do we travel the road with individuals who want to live in the fantasy world of Cinderella, but in reality have the character and conduct of in your face Jezebel?
