Our Second Child, A Man After God’s Own Heart
John 16:21 – A woman giving birth to a child has pain because her time has come; but when her baby is born she forgets the anguish because of her joy that a child is born into the world.
When God let me know that I was pregnant with our second child, Bobby and I had mixed emotions. Our first child came into this world with several medical issues and some of those medical concerns were still being addressed. Not only were there medical issues with our first child, but our first child was only going to be fifteen months old when our second child was born.
Our first child required enormous amounts of attention because of his medical situation. My mother nor Bobby’s mother lived close so they could not help on a regular basis. By the time Bobby arrived home from work, I was beyond tired physically and emotionally.
However, when our second bundle of joy arrived July 9, 1981, my mother was disappointed that he did not arrive on July 2 because she wanted him born on her birthday. God sent us from the beginning “a baby after God’s own heart.” He was a peaceful, restful, calm, happy baby.
Just as King David, our second son has had a heart after God. Acts 13:22 b – I have found David son of Jesse a man after my own heart; he will do everything I want him to do.
However, like King David, our son has had his own challenges. These challenges at times have over taken him like Kind David’s adultery with Bathsheba and murdering her husband. King David found his way back to God. Psalm 51 is David’s plea for mercy, forgiveness, and cleansing. Just like King David, our son has always found his way back to God and us.
Isaiah 33:6 – He will be the sure foundation for your times, a rich store of salvation and wisdom and knowledge; the fear of the Lord is the key to this treasure.
Isaiah 37:31-32 – Once more a remnant of the house of Judah will take root below and bear fruit above. For out of Jerusalem will come a remnant, and out of Mount Zion a band of survivors. The zeal of the Lord Almighty will accomplish this.
Malachi 3:16 – Then those who feared the Lord talked with each other, and the Lord listened and heard. A scroll of remembrance was written in his presence concerning those who feared the Lord and honored his name.
God has a Book of Remembrance and so do we. Thank you for my lighthouse on my birthday. Thank you for being our son. Happy Birthday
