First Love, Seeking The Lord’s Heartbeat

Do you remember your First Love?

My very first crush was in elementary school. He was it. I thought he was the most divine human being on this earth. But what did I know in elementary since he did not even know my name much less that I was even on this planet.

My first true love came when I was nine. I accepted Christ as my personal Savior. During this time, several tragic events happened in my life.

Through these events, I began to search what is “Love” and who is “Love”. At this time, church had become a part of my mother’s and my life as we searched for the Lord’s heartbeat.

1 John 4:7-12 Dear friends let us love one another, for love comes from God. Everyone who loves has been born of God and knows God. Whoever does not love does not know God because God is love. This is how God showed his love among us: He sent his one and only Son into the world that we might live through him. This is love: not that we loved God, but that he loved us and sent his Son as an atoning sacrifice for our sins. Dear friends, since God so loved us, we also ought to love one another. No one has ever seen God; but if we love one another, God lives in us and his love is made complete in us.

Love is not a feeling but a choice and an action. God is our source of love. He is our example of what it means to love. The Holy Spirit gives us the power to love. He lives in our hearts and makes us more and more like Christ as we listen to His heartbeat.

Our job is to love faithfully the people God has given us to love. My husband, Bobby, is one of those people God has given me to love. Tomorrow, we will celebrate our Thirty Ninth Anniversary. He has been a great source of encouragement to me. He cheered me on when God was telling me to go to college. This was not going to be an easy task because our sons were ten and eleven at the time. After several years of teaching, God gave us another person to love, our grandson. Once again my husband, who is thinking about me and our grandson, encouraged me to leave my teaching and care for our grandson. This was a huge sacrifice because there was going to be a cut in our income again.

Love is a choice and an action. Love involves unselfish service to others. God lives in us and His love is complete. My husband has shown love over these thirty-nine years not only to me but to our family as well.

Happy Anniversary to my dear encouraging husband of 39 years, Bobby!

Can you say that you have the love of God which is focused outward or do you have the love our society claims which are inward toward yourself? Are you listening to the Lord’s heartbeat?
