Today is a loved ones birthday. This loved one has not had the opportunity to know Bobby and me but we love this one deep in the center of our hearts.
When the raging storms started January 2013, God provided us with several Scriptures to stand firmly on. As time has marched on and the intensity of the storms has at times threatened to drown us, God has provided the shelter of His loving arms to shield us.
Psalm 31: 1-24, v-19-20- How great is your goodness, which you have stored up for those who fear you, which you bestow in the sight of men on those who take refuge in you. In the shelter of your presence you hide them from the intrigues of men; in your dwelling you keep them safe from accusing tongues.
Psalm 91: 1-16, v-1-2 – He who dwells in the shelter of the Most High will rest in the shadow of the Almighty. I will say of the Lord, “He is my refuge and my fortress, my God, in whom I trust.”
When the crashing of the waves of adversity started pounding us and seeking to rip our hearts out of our innermost beings, we turned to God and not to people, the secular court, or our own strength.
Zechariah 4:6b – “Not by might nor by power, but by my Spirit,” says the Lord Almighty.
By walking in our own strength, we think that we have to be tough, strong, unbending and harsh. However, God tells us that we are only strong by His Spirit.
It is easy to be frightened by the wickedness we see all around us and overwhelmed by the problems we face. Evil is obviously stronger than we are but 1 John 4:4 tells us that the one who is in you is greater than the one who is in the world.
2 Chronicles 20:1-30, v-11-12, 15b – See how they are repaying us by coming to drive us out of the possession you gave us as an inheritance. O our God, will you not judge them? For we have no power to face this vast army that is attacking us. We do not know what to do, but our eyes are upon you. This is what the Lord says to you: “Do not be afraid or discouraged because of this vast army. For the battle is not yours, but God’s.
As these storms have at times felt as though they were going to strip us and tear us, God has provided us with assurance through His mighty and powerful Word that He would restore what has been ripped from us.
Joel 2: 25 – I will repay you for the years the locusts have eaten, the great locust and the young locust, the other locust and the locust swarm, my great army that I sent among you.
Isaiah 61:1-11, v- 2-3,7 – to proclaim the year of the Lord’s favor and the day of vengeance of our God, to comfort all who mourn, and provide for those who grieve in Zion, to bestow on them a crown of beauty instead of ashes, the oil of gladness instead of mourning, and a garment of praise instead of a spirit of despair. They will be called oaks of righteousness, a planting of the Lord for the display of his splendor. Instead of their shame my people will receive a double portion, and instead of disgrace they will rejoice in their inheritance; and so they will inherit a double portion in their land and everlasting joy will be theirs.
